I need the quote for a tattoo. I would be very greatful if someone could help.Translate ';Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder'; to Latin please?
Pulchritudo in oculo conspicientis est.
Beauty is in the eye of (the one) beholding.
It's the closest you can get in latin.Translate ';Beauty is in the eye of the Beholder'; to Latin please?
--Pulchritudo /or/ Venustas in spectatoris oculo est. (CATT IS RIGHT!)
(That's quite literal)
There's somthing like that in Latin:
--De gustibus et coloribus non est disputandum-
(Literally-Nobody can argue about likings and colours- btw I think that the meaning is the same)
But since this is an idiom (I'm not sure about the previous real idiomatic meaning), I suggest a translation from the Italian form of the proverb (just 'couse Italian is one of Latin's closest languages)
--It's not beautiful what beautiful is...but it's beautiful what it's appreciated
Non pulchrum//venustum est quod pulchrum//venustum est, sed pulchrum//venustum est quod libet.
Or as I read somewhere:
--Pulchrum, quod proprie pulchrum est, non esse nisi in rebus, quae solis humanis sensibus offeruntur.
Pulchritudo est in spectatoris oculo?
But I'm sure there must be a more elegant translation, somewhere around
