';Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; what does it exactly mean?

an example would be helpful';Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; what does it exactly mean?
To each, his own. What one finds attractive or beautiful another may not. It is a matter of personal perception.';Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; what does it exactly mean?
The ';eye of the beholder'; refers to the person who is beholding -- the person who is seeing the ';beautiful object'; in question. So, pretend you and I are walking down the street and I see a pretty flower ( I am beholding it) Now I may say, ';Wow that is the most beautiful flower I have ever seen!!'; whereas you might say, ';What are you talking about, it's so ugly!'; If it was up to ME and MY judgment, the flower is beautiful. But if it is up to YOU and YOUR judgment, it is not. Now, how can you really determine who is ';right';? How can anyone really say what is beautiful or what isn't? It's just up to our own interpretation...hence, what is considered ';beauty'; is really up to the eye of the beholder.

:)
It's along similiar lines to *One man's trash is another man's treasure*

It essentially means, I mind someone beautiful, while another may find them unattractive. It essentially means, your beauty is essentially determined by others.
Individuals have different inclinations on what is beautiful. Individuals have different beauty standards.

In some societies, it's considered beautiful to be an overweight woman
It means the perception of beauty is a cultural/personal thing. Some people may think someone/something is beautiful, but in another culture or to an other person it/they may appear repulsive.
It means that thankfully people are different with different tastes. An example - one of my dreams might be a woman's nightmare.
if you think you hot your hot
