ha ha haPoll: Do you think beauty is really in the eye of the beholder?
Definately, yes. There is, of course, the common traits that most people find attractive, but when it comes to the ';fine details';, I think that what I find attractive or sexy isn't what you might find attractive or sexy. For example, there is this commercial on the Animal Planet, and it shows a guy that has scars on his face from an attack of some kind. Now, personally, I find it mysterious and sexy. So something like that, another person might think ';what??!!';, but for me it works. And sometimes it'll just be the lips or the eyes on an otherwise ';plain'; face that does it. Lol, I could go on and on, but I think I've made my point! : )Poll: Do you think beauty is really in the eye of the beholder?
Defiantly...because I've seen some really unattractive people get married and there so happy or at least seem like it. And many of the times I see a very attractive guy or girl and there partner is gross..
That's why they say opposites do attract.
I'm not beautiful like you , but beautiful like me.
*wink*
For some things, yes. And some rare things are just truly beautiful and have a type of undeniable beauty that resonates from within...
Of course, everyone sees things and are affected by them differently, thus making their opinions different.
Yes. Everyone has their idea of what is attractive. It isn't the same for everyone.
It is.
I've seen too many people who are convinced their partner is gorgeous who've been blinded by love.
It's a good thing.
yes , most definately..........one man's junk is another one's treasure ,take that to the bank
very truee:D
It has to be, because Ive seen some UGLY people get married.
Look at some of the couples out there. It must be true.
Yes :]
sure ugly people get married too
Yes, i do.
ya I do

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, who is the beholder?
The person beholding someone. To most my sister may not be ';pretty/beautiful'; but once you get to know her she is incredibly beautiful.
It's sad that some ';beautiful people'; have nothing else to contribute to the world other than their visual attractiveness.
And the people who may seem ';flawed'; at first are amazing/incredible people with compassion, empathy, love and tolerance to offer. That's what makes them most beautiful.
I have a friend that has been married 4 times and he isn't even 40 yet. He won't give anyone ';imperfect'; a chance. But he'll put a 30K diamond on the finger of a stacked blonde in a hot minute. :(
Beauty is different to every single person in the world. There may be some agreements on what is beautiful and what is not. But everyone sees different. Therefore the beholder is each individual person.
the beholder is the one viewing the object/individual. The statement is only saying that it depends on who/what looks on it, whether or not it/they are beautiful.
Society. It pretty much dictates what ';beauty'; is.
The person taking in one's beauty
Each individual person. All that matters is who you want to care about the beauty.
Beauty expert.

the person that thinks someone/ something is beautiful

What does it mean when people say ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder';?
It means the person looking at something is the person who decides what is beautiful to them.
We all have different ideas on what beauty is. Often this phrase is used to make people who are obsessed with their own attractiveness give thought to deeper issues.
Or it is used to remind people that just because they don't find someone or something attractive, it doesn't mean that other people agree with them. What does it mean when people say ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder';?
why don't we use the statement: ';you are the apple in my eye';What does it mean when people say ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder';?
It means that the IDEA of beauty is subjective.
What you think is attractive (mocha-colored skin, black hair, brown eyes, etc.) may not necessarily be appealing to someone who finds (fair skin, blond hair, blue eyes, etc.) beautiful.
Means I can think someone is beautiful, but you may not. So to me the beholder it is beautiful.
It means that not everyone's idea of beauty is the same. Kinda like ';one man's trash is another man's treasure.';
';Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; means that one's physical appearance is not only the basis of others to judge if he / she is goodlooking / pretty. It really depends on the opinion of others. For example, there is a lady who is really pretty and yet others didnt't find her beautiful since she displays bad attitude towards others, that' s why others can no longer appreciate her beauty bec. their judgment / perception to that lady changed , they based it from the lady's personality. However, for example there is a lady who is too simple but because she's beautiful inside since she is really accommodating to all, then her aura for others will be positive. So it really depends on how others see us.
You determine what's beautiful to you.
its just saying only you can determine wether your beautiful or not.
its like talking about love. But its hard to explain that way. so I can teach you this way. when you buy it , its priceless. when you sell it its worthless. just like a car. If its your daughter. she is priceless. if its your wife she is priceless. understand?
It means that to each person what is beautiful will be different.
It means that beauty is relative. It depends on the person looking at it.
Well its like if you called someone ugly and another person thought that person was pretty its an opinion!
IF YOU THINK SOMEONES PRETTY IT ISNT A FACT. IT ALSO ISNT A FACT IF YOU CALL SOMEONE UGLY

Is truth like beauty; in the eye of the beholder?
Hi Celtic Peace,
No. 'Perception' is in the eye of the beholder, but truth is not.
'Truth', is just that : 'truth'. No one can fudge it. I can view it through a specific lens, but that is 'perception'.
I take everything I can into consideration, including other people's ideas. However, just because the majority of people believe it is : 'the truth', it is not necessarily : 'the truth.
Just, because I believe 'something' is the truth also.. does not mean : it IS the truth. :)
Each of us filters all input through our minds... our 'experiences', our 'qualifications', our 'ideas'. No human can determine, for certain : 'the truth'.
Thank you for your question, Celtic Peace. :) ..And, take care of yourself.

Is truth like beauty; in the eye of the beholder?
Truth is like energy. It can neither be created nor destroyed. Truth has always been and always will be.
In 1755 the new truth became the Industrial Consolidation of Power.
In Feb 10, 2011 the New Truth will be Conscious Co-creation and we will all gather around and discuss truth and debate what IS truth and what is NOT truth.
In answer to your question I would say that NOT everyone is mindful of the truth at present. We're going through shifts in time and space right now thanks to our current Ascension, or Evolution, as you will and as we progress from 7 hertz to 13 hertz we are ALL at varying levels. This is causing a great deal of stress and the thing that MOST people are noticing right now that there appears to be an increase in time. This however, is a mis-perception since it is NOT time that is speeding up, but it is creation that is accelerating.
In 1960 I was told that the Ice Caps would not melt, nor would we be having an Ice Age for 10,000 years. This was a GUARANTEE from our teachers of the time. This was a ';Truth'; of the time. Well, it's been almost 50 years since that promise and what is happening right now?
PROOF that creation is accelerating. So, truth is NOT a constant anymore. And it is subject to certain conditions. And yet, the facts are STiLL the facts and the truths of history are still the truths of the present, but the Time Line has been distorted. So truth is, perhaps, happening a LOT faster than we previously expected.
So, back to your question again, I really don't know ... I guess. But I can tell you that it is NOT like beauty b/c beauty is NOT drifting in and out of a dimensional and temporal time line but truth is definitely. And I guess if when you spot truth, and you don't blink, you may be actually able to hold on to it but if you get distracted, even for a second, you will lose it.
I will leave you with an interesting link below that will confirm what I have just said, and more. If you go to the lecture by Ian Lungold, just below the flashing green paragraph up near the top of the website, you will be able to watch an amazing 1.5 hour lecture that was given at the Melon University. Watch it over and over, because it takes a while to let all the data sink in. The website gets more and more involved after that so you may want to watch the lecture and not go farther. Or you may want to go all the way through it, but allow about 2 weeks to absorb everything there.
I think I can safely say that one mans truth will not be another man's fiction, VERY SOON. By 2011 Truth will begin to stabilize for a select few and by the end of 2012 it will become apparent to all.
Enjoy. Namaste. In Lak'ech.

Shortly after that we will be entering the 5th Dimension and at THAT precise moment we will ALL KNOW truth.
The truth is the truth...it is brutal, unrelenting, unkind, you cannot compromise it, no matter how deep you bury it, it would still come out and haunt you, most of the time it's ugly but the truth ALWAYS prevails NO MATTER WHAT. it's always staring at you but does not say or do anything until you lie, keep a secret, or hide something, it will give you time but ultimately will expose you for what you have done, good or ill
Truth, like beauty, is not ';in the eye of the beholder';. Studies have proved that symmetry is beautiful to all persons. I tried to reason with my daughters about truth. Look at it this way: Does what a person believes about something have any bearing on whether or not it's true? No. Truth is truth. There is absolute truth. We may not always know what it is, but that doesn't change the truth of it.
There is Absolute Truth, all that IS - untainted by perception, by ';understandings';. It remains as complete Truth whether it is within our beyond our knowledge capacity.
Then there is individual Truth. This is perception we hold based upon our own personal experiences and knowledge. It is here where Truths differ. It is from here where we must come to understand that Truth, Absolute Truth, exists regardless of our discoveries of it.
Blessings
you question mentioned truth, and not perception. I agree with 90% of the answers, like Rob and Shiva, I also will tell you that truth is one man's lie and one man's reality.
For christians, their truth is the bible and their one god, which to me, is utter BS.
On the other hand, my truth is that my Gods and Goddesses are real, and are my reality, and my Sabbats, laws and such are true, and to the christians, they are false, and not real.
This is where perception comes in. but that is another question altogether. :)
People say ghosts are real, and have seen/ felt/ heard them.
While I believe in ghosts,I have yet to see one. [ There is, however, ONE ghost I wish to see :) ] I have felt the presence of one and have what I think, heard him in my mind, but that, too, is another question altogether :)
Blessings, and thank you for your thoughtful question.
Totally. Although we do all share similar concepts of that. A face shape survey was done involving every sub-race as possible. Most chose the same types of faces of wide set apart eyes, asymmetrical heart shaped face, lips and smaller chin. Amazing really.
Abstract concepts of beauty are a completely different matter. The same thing can be seen from all angles its good and its bad, each to his own :)
Practicing Shaman.. quantum physics rocks.
No, truth is truth. Things are a certain way.
Human beings may not be able to perceive the truth due to the limits of the human sensorium and limited intelligence. We may misinterpret reality, or see it in a particular way (e.g. we see objects as solid even though in atmoic terms they are 99% empty space). But this doesn't change what the truth really is.
Whether this matters or not is another question entirely.
Perhaps.
Take religion for instance. Millions around the world claim to have felt the presence of God within them. For many their faith is based around this.
Take a Hindu and a Christian for example - they both have felt 'God's presence' but who is actually truthful when there is only one God? Which is the right religion?
The question remains unanswerable.
Remember to speak your truth quietly and clearly, and listen to others.
Even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
How does my avatar looks for you ?
In that honesty to your ownself that you behold the truth
you might lie to me to make me feel good
but in that honesty you hold with your heart is the truth
what is the beauty here ?
what you seek in my avatar ? what you see thru your heart in my avatar ?
but in the end you have the answer dont you
is this right ? or wrong ? that would be the sole choice of you devoid of my own interpretation or others
All praises it for Lord Shiva
I am nothing, I own nothing
I am not worthy of any praise
hmmmmmmm, you know whats the funny is, sometimes i need to come back and re read what i have written for me to understand it, It ``flows`` out of you. LOL
While I think there are always 2 sides to every story, there is still only one truth. Although I do believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Also beauty is much more than looks but involves a person's heart, mind and personality as well.
No. Truth is like mathematics. The answer doesn't change. Beauty is not completely in the eye of the beholder. There is a mathematical relationship between dimensions of the face that is extremely accurate in predicting beauty.
No. Truth is what exist as it is eternally, beauty changes and fades as the situation and age and is more dependent on imagination and fashion. Truth exist irrespective of anybody's 'beholding'
if the truth you speak of is about an event or someone's opinion then it is definitly in the eye of the beholder! but that might not always be the case, it depends if you are looking for facts, opinions or another questionable truth?
Yup. It's all relative.
Of course, you'll have those of a common mind that will band together to claim that the ';truth'; they chose to believe in is the, one and only, ';truth';.
No because truth cant change from one by one, because beauty is some thing that related to taste of every one but truth cant change with different tastes of people truth is always truth even if you dont like it you cant deny it
only in theory.
only the non objective third person sees the truth with out doubt,
provided the third person knows the truth.

A universe could only hold up if made of truth. We left the Intelligence of the Universe thinking we could make up our own. When we distort it we also miss the path of love.
We may, perhaps, see the same fact of truth in a different way. But the truth itself remains the same.
Yes - in regards to religion and spirituality. In fact, I've said exactly that many times in the Religion %26amp; Spirituality section here.

I have an beauty spot above my eye..under my eye brow..how can i get rid of it?
i reallly hate it i cover it wid my hair like shown in this pic.I have an beauty spot above my eye..under my eye brow..how can i get rid of it?
The only way to get rid of a beauty mark is to have it removed. See your dermatologist if you really want it gone. But I'm sure it doesn't look bad and just remember, there is a reason it is called a ';beauty'; mark! ; )I have an beauty spot above my eye..under my eye brow..how can i get rid of it?
i would try concealer before you put on your make up. if they arethe kind that look like a mole or bumped out then yo can have a doctor or dermatoligist freeze them off
you are real pretty fyi i dont thin a beuaty spot would take away from that~
well..look at the spot again and look it at a different point of view..you may see it as a beauty..
beauty comes from people who appreciate what comes around even when people see it as ugly..
You can go to a plastic surgeon if you want. They could remove it quickly and easily.
UHH YOU REALLY CANT GET RiD OF iT BUT YOU CN GO BUY SOME MAC MAKEUP LiKE A CONCERLER OR A POWDER FROM THERE iT WiLL REALLY COVER iT UP
why cover it up natural makes us beautiful like yourself
Some people who are jalouse about your beauty may be talling that the beauty spot is ugly,so dont care them and tell that you like it.
WHO SAY THAT IT IS UGLY DID YOUR FATHER OR MOTHER SAY THAT IT IS UGLY, OUR PARENTS ARE THE PEOPLE WHOM WE CAN TRUST, IF THEY SAY THAT IT IS UGLY THEN IT IS OK, OTHERWISE YOU DO NOT WORRY ABOUT IT (A.G .PILLAI)

Most definitelyDo you believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder
How often do you see a man with a wife or girl friend that you think looks awful. He obviously doesn't. Also a beautiful woman with an ugly looking, in your opinion, man. We all see things differently and perhaps look deeper into a person and see something beyond the pretty or handsome face.
Absolutely...how many times have I seen a fat, ugly woman with a child/children and thought...I'd have to be paralytic, stoned or with a gun to my goolies to have sex with that. Someone else obviously didn't think so.
Completely. Attraction is something completely individual to each person, there may be typically accepted forms of what should be considered beautiful but that does not always mean that it will apply to everyonee.
I believe people have different standards/criteria. some may prefer a less good looking person with a great personality whereas some prioritise good looks very highly..
Yes, people have different tastes and affections for different people!
Yes =] me and my Friends fight over this subject all the time..
*sigh*
Yes I do, my friend is beautiful in my opinion , but our other friend says she very plain.
Without a doubt
I think you mean Beer holder.
Sure where else would it be.

What is beauty? Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder?
Beauty is defined as a quality of pleasure or a sense of attractiveness. However, I think beauty is all about good self-esteem and kindness. Beautiful people feel good about themselves. They are comfortable with the way they look. They have a great personality with kindness and consideration. But then again, that's just my opinion. People see beauty in different ways, so I suppose beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. What is beauty? Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder?
Beauty is an absolute feeling ,everything and everyone is beautiful , believe me , The only thing is that you compare things and tell which one is MORE beautiful , if you just try you can find beauty in everything , even in the things you consider ugly .
I suggest you to try this . Look at the ugliest thing in your opinion objectively and you will find the beauty behind it .What is beauty? Is beauty really in the eye of the beholder?

';Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'; - Origin:
This saying first appeared in the 3rd century BC in Greek. It didn't appear in its current form in print until the 19th century, but in the meantime there were various written forms that expressed much the same thought. In 1588, the English dramatist John Lyly, in his
Euphues and his England, wrote:
';...as neere is Fancie to Beautie, as the pricke to the Rose, as the stalke to the rynde, as the earth to the roote.';
Shakespeare expressed a similar sentiment in Love's Labours Lost, 1588:
Good Lord Boyet, my beauty, though but mean,
Needs not the painted flourish of your praise:
Beauty is bought by judgement of the eye,
Not utter'd by base sale of chapmen's tongues
Benjamin Franklin, in Poor Richard's Almanack, 1741, wrote:
Beauty, like supreme dominion
Is but supported by opinion
beauty is in the eye of the beholderDavid Hume's Essays, Moral and Political, 1742, include:
';Beauty in things exists merely in the mind which contemplates them.';
The person who is widely credited with coining the saying in its current form is Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (n茅e Hamilton), who wrote many books, often under the pseudonym of 'The Duchess'. In Molly Bawn, 1878, there's the line ';Beauty is in the eye of the beholder';.

Good question!
Yes beauty is indeed in the eyes of the beholder. Beauty is the mental formation of an image or images that catches the essence of the thing perceived. The beauty belongs rather to the inward image than to the outward form in which it is embodied. The difference really lies not in the power of externalizing the image but in the power of the inwardly forming an image that expresses thought.
Beauty is adequate expression. And since there is no real expression if it be not adequate we may answer very briefly that beauty is indeed an expression.
Thanks for asking. Have a great day!
Yes, Because every individual person has their perception of what Beauty is, therefore it is within their eyes. There is no one person that everyone in the world will think is physically Beautiful. I think alot of people are unattractive that hollywood worships.
That statement is so true.
Everyone thinks different things are beautiful
theres not just one definition of beauty cuz its different for everyone
They are a lot of things that influences ppl's definition of beautiful...My spanish friends likes diff. type of guys, I like them tall and blond, but she doesn't...Women in muslim countries propably find a bearded man sexy, but I really don't! But I would say that generally, ppl from the same culture have similar tastes in beauty...
beauty is the lack of ugliness. it does'nt lie in the eyes of the beholder becoz practically if the man or woman is blind then the statement would be wrong.

What does ';beauty is the eye of the beholder'; mean?
This is in greek mythologyWhat does ';beauty is the eye of the beholder'; mean?
';Beauty is IN the eye of the beholder';
You and I have different tastes - I may look at an abstract painting and find it beautiful, while you may look at it and find it a jumbled mess. We are each entitled to our opinions, and such differences of opinion shouldn't divide us or cause animosity between us.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder means that different people will find different things beautiful and that the differences of opinion don't matter greatly. What does ';beauty is the eye of the beholder'; mean?
It means your beautiful only if you believe and think you are.
that only God can judge. and God thinks everyone is beautiful, thats why He made them that way, so in short, everyone is beautiful.
This means that beauty and good looks are entirely as one sees it. A person may think someone is beautiful, while others may not.
it means the person looking at the person or thing they precieve as beautiful maynot be others idea of beauty
Same thing as ';Another man's trash is another man's treasure.';
beauty is subjective
ugh....
its beauty is in the eye of the BEERholder

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
what the hell does this mean?Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
What do you mean ';what the hell does this mean?';
Who on earth has been teaching you English, that you don't understand this? The ';beholder'; is someone who sees, so, it's really simple:
My old dog is getting grey and a bit dribbly, but I still find her beautiful, because I see her as she used to be. (I'm the beholder).
Your mum is beautiful to you, isn't she? Even if she's got sticky-up hair and she's in her dressing-gown? (You're the beholder).
That is the simplest explanation. But once you understand it, how it makes you feel, is something else entirely.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
It means beauty is subjective and that whether one individual could think that someone is beautiful... someone next to them could think the complete oposite. So therefore they are the beholder of the beauty they see :)
It means each to his own.
Everybody has there own perception of beauty:
I could see John Smith as the most beautiful person in the world, however, my friend may think he's ugly.
hahaha idk..i think that everyone is beautiful in there own way?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...right?
then why doesn't everyone decide that everything is beautiful? Things are different, yes, but if i can decide what is beautiful and what is not beautiful, wouldn't it be better to decide that everything is beautiful.
Or is beauty only partially in the eye of the beholder, society, in a way, decides what is beautiful for us (deathly thin, etc) so why can't we realize that those with a little more meat on their large bones are beautiful too? Is our power to determine beauty limited?Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...right?
Exactly...Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...right?
I do belive beauty is in the eye of the beholder. While there are certain general things that are more physically appealing to people, such as symmetry, especially among the ancient Greeks, most people have their own ideas of what beauty is. Our power to determine beauty is not limited, but diversified. People generally view the same deathly thin people and other sterotypes of beatuy to be ';true'; beauty, becasue that is what is popular in society, and most people will do anything to conform to society.
On a side note, the world would be a pretty boring place if everyone viewed any idea in the same way. Our differences are what make the world special.
This is a cliche most commonly used to explain or justify a judgment when someone is attracted to something or someone that the observer does NOT think is attractive. ';I don't see what she sees in George, I don't like him.'; ';Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they say.';
In other words it is just the opposite of what you are trying to set up. And one of the reasons we don't decide that everything is beautiful is that we have seen something we think is beautiful destroyed, smashed, vulgarized, trashed, painted over so that what we liked is not only gone but is now revolting.
Our power to determine what is beautiful is limited. As humans, we are programmed to think that symmetry is beautiful, like the Taj Mahal for example (it's symmetrical). Because we are told and shown what is beautiful at a young age (be it fat or thin), by the time we are old enough to reason (ages 17 and up) our perception of beauty is ingrained in our minds. If you have always been raised to believe that thin is in, you will have a difficult time truly, wholly believing that some extra meat is attractive. The only way to realize why we don't see beauty in everything is Tabula Rasa- or ';blank slate.'; Once you employ radical doubt, or doubt everything you know, see, hear, touch, etc. and get a blank slate, then you can start fresh and use reason to find out what beauty is and why we don't see it in everything.
We can't trust our senses either. Some people wear glasses, some can't smell, some people like certain foods while others don't. Some people are color blind. Therefore, we cannot trust the things we see, touch, taste, or hear. However, there are certain universal truths. For example, the sky is blue. Someone may be colorblind, but the still get the same wavelength for blue. In all cultures everyone can agree that the sky is blue. Now, can we determine the same thing for beauty? Yes and no. Most people as well as scientists believe that symmetrical things are beautiful.
I know that was kind of complicated, but that is my opinion.
Everything human is a combination of genetics and environment. There are some instincts that many people just can't overcome and many that they have no desire to overcome.
The idea that society decides what is attractive is a bit of an overhyped myth in my opinion. I know many many people who say that many models are too thin. They are NOT icons of beauty, they are clotheshorses, people get confused.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder - right.
That's why you should stop talking in ';WE';.
Society doesn't decide what is ';beautiful'; for YOU. YOU decide to give your power to society and let it influence your definition of beauty.
';Society';s opinion is just as validate as an opinion of some aggressive stray dog that barks day and night. Stray dogs bark day and night because it's insane/hungry for attention - same with mainstream culture.
The reason why most people think puppies are cute is due to the built-in Human survival instinct of finding babies cute. Their faces have the same basic markers that release chemicals into our brains. The same with baby Seals. Advertisers use this in their work. Take the doll, ';Bratz'; for example. Large eyes and full lips equal superior traits to us subconsciously. We always look for the best possible ';physical'; mate before we look for an emotional or spiritual equal. Someone overweight is unattractive to us. The same person loses weight they become more attractive.
We learn to be attracted to certain things. Certainly, I am attracted to women (vagina, breast, legs, eyes, etc) without learning. But I am attracted to make-up because society as taught me that make up makes women look more attractive. What I mean is society teaches us what is hot. If I were in the middle east, eyes would be all I see in women....that's how it is. Attraction is as much social, or more so, then physical.
you can realise the beauty in everything if you want to. you're the beholder, so you can see whatever you like. but you can't make other people see what you want. you can tell them to look for it, or point it out to them but if they don't want to see it they wont.
Yes beauty is in the eye of the beholder. We are all beautiful, be it aesthetically or inner.
If I was a leper with no beauty to your eye would you, if given time, find the beauty within me.
Beauty is a word. Think of a a blind person. They can find beauty without sight.
It's true that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. It's also true that the majority of people tend to agree on what constitutes beauty. This is where our idealized representations of people come from.
Our view on beauty can be limited since our views our so influenced. It just depends on the person. Some are more broad minded and others are more narrow.Beauty CAN be in the eye of the beholder.
If you realized Beauty in everything then congratulations, you are entering Sainthood. Do you know what mortals doing with living Saints in most cases?

Is beauty in the eye of the beholder or heart?
Do we know that the 'eyes are the windows of the soul'? So when we look deeply into someones eyes we can feel rather can tell in words 'whatever really is beneath it', If we only 'understand'..with an 'open heart'?
It is the soul of the bearer within those 'eyes' that we may feel whatever truth lies upon it..
It is the heart that speaks in those eyes, And the real beauty that could be only hidden just beyond them..
Have a wonderful time..Is beauty in the eye of the beholder or heart?
the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. that's true.. even u can see in the most horrible place of the world. beauty... depends of the beautifull soul who is looking ..... the beauty is not outside. is inside.... if u are beauty inside. u will see everything beaty.. weelll .. the sky is teh key Report Abuse
Is beauty in the eye of the beholder or heart?
yeah but if u have a broken heart even .. with a broken heart . if u see beauty wow... that's awesome.... the soul is pure beauty.. doesn't matter the heart.. only matters the soul... Report Abuse
SO THE PIONT IS THE BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER YES.. BUT NOT THE HEART.. THE SOUL.... THE HEART WILLL DIE HERE IN THIS WORLD.. THE SOUL WILL LIVE FOREVER.. Report Abuse
Call a plant beautiful, and it becomes a flower.
Call it ugly, and it becomes a weed.

We see Life through the fun-house mirrors of our point-of-view.
- Jonathan Lockwood Huie
It's about perception or point-of-view. Either ';eye'; or ';heart'; is simply a metaphor for perception or point-of-view.
Define the definition of beauty. When you say something or someone is beautiful, you are judging them from your own eyes. Beauty does not have to be only experienced from the eye, you can hear beauty. you can hear beautiful music which touch the heart of your soul. The eyes and ears are external objects but you experience things through them. Beauty when seen from the eyes are an illusion. Say you are blind, you can't tell who's beautiful. That's when you say beauty comes from the heart. If you get past looks, then you see true beauty
I have to believe it's in the eye.
An example is that there is a woman that I truly adore. She is not conventionally good looking but I find her to be fetching beyond words. In my vision, she is idealized; her freckles, the little crook in her nose, her crooked tooth and the way that her breasts sag simply all add to her immense cuteness.
In no way has my heart attempted to idealize her though; She is a dear friend but I have no desire to attempt wooing her. Instead of seeing the similarities between us as reasons to rationalize a romance, I see them as things that can cement our friendship. Her shortcomings, my shortcomings and the reasons that we may be incompatible have always been clearly within my view.
I've had numerous experiences similar to this and that's why I'm single but have great friends :-)
It my not be scientific but it's my $0.02
The answer to your question is in a quotation of Dr. Singh on ';Nature and Nature of Things'; as below,
';Beauty is not in the eye of the beholder but the appreciation of beauty is (in the eye better) in the mind and heart of the beholder. Beauty in reality is in the art of The Creator.';
Beauty in the heart of the beholder doesnt really make sense.
It implies that, well, lets say person A is being beheld by person B. It basically says that beauty is in the heart of B i.e. not deeming person A's beauty at all which is what we set out to do.
/beauty everywhere including such things as sunsets and sunrises is in the eye of the beholder In the same sense the heart action is an emotion.
It has top be the eye. The heart is bound in darkness and never sees the light of day, still, ';the heart wants what the heart wants';.
Charles Manson would tell you it is his eye. He has no heart.
Beholding beauty is a hardship serving life without parole.

The beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what does that mean to you? and why?
it means that whoever says that is ugly! The beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what does that mean to you? and why?
for me it's looking into the person beyond what the naked eye can see.it's about seeing all of the inner beauty within someone.if we only look at somebody %26amp; only see the skin deep physical aspect of their personality then we have a shallow view of what beauty is all about.most do tend to only see the obvious but its looking way too deep that matters. The beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what does that mean to you? and why?
It depends on what you are looking for as to what you find.

Some people can see beyond the physical appearance of others. They see the soul.
It simply means that one person may see an ugly picture in their eye when they look at something, and the other person sees nothing but beauty when looking at the same object.
It has nothing to do with the way a person sees them self, it is about the way that others see you. You could think you look like crap on a bad day and someone looking at you might see you as beautiful. You could also think you look great on a good day and someone looking at you might see you as looking crappy.....Everyone has different tastes and perspectives.....what is beautiful to one is not to all.....the beholder is the person looking at you.....and in their eyes you may be beautiful......and forget that comment about whoever said that is ugly......everyone is beautiful to someone, and the people that are most beautiful are the ones who can see a person for who they are and not what they look like.
That means beauty is how you see it. because people should see them self as beautiful. and not ugly even if someone else says so.
beauty is in the eye of the people viewing the specific person someones trash could be someone elses treasure

An 18th century proverb - also known from the 3rd century BC in Greek. Shakespeare expressed a similar sentiment in Love's Labours Lost:

Explain how ';beauty lies in the eye of the beheld';?
Good question. It really depends on you're philosophical beliefs. As far as science is concerned, the eyes developed over time (at the time of the first appearance of fish on earth I believe) in order to perceive light which our brains can manifest into an image.
However, it's our brains themselves that determine what's ';hot'; and what's ';not';. So really, beauty lies in the brain of the observer. Though that's no where near as romantic =P
...and 'andrew l', read everything thoroughly before you reply. It was a necessary change in the grammatical structure.Explain how ';beauty lies in the eye of the beheld';?
Explain how ';beauty lies in the eye of the beheld';?
We may LOOK at the world, which includes ourselves, with our eyes....but we SEE the world, and ourselves, with our ';eye';-deas (ideas).
Consequently, we don't see things as ';they'; are....we see things as ';we'; are......through the filter of our ideas.
';Was the eye contrived without knowledge in optics (sic)';?
If Sir Isaac Newton, the second occupant of the Lucasian Chair of Mathematics, really thought about the ANSWER to his question, I am certain that he would have appreciated ';beholding the beauty'; of the ';eye-dea'; that 2+2=4, perfectly, truthfully, invariably, and immutably.....whether summed by scholar, heretic, infidel, or untutored boor, correctly or not !
.....and that the principles of Optics, he discovered, or any of the Principles of Life uncovered by later scientists that govern the relationship between mass, gravity, time, and the curvature of space to produce black holes have been in perfect operation just as eternally BEFORE their discovery of those principles as is the frequency upon which you enjoy listening to your favorite music; indeed, existent ever since the Universe cooled it into resonance along with the infinite gradations of frequency radiating beside it. These principles HAD to have been in operation just as perfectly BEFORE we discovered how to harness them into technology as they presently operate now. Or we would not be able to continue to utilize them for our technology today, much less build them into technological improvements tomorrow!
We ALL are free to choose to believe that 2+2=5 for ETERNITY until we have acquired FOR OURSELVES the necessary knowledge of the immutable principle that correctly sums the answer.
';Perfection does not come from projecting our own ideas but from awakening to the knowledge that it is already the established order of things.';, as indicated in the reference.
....don't believe me? Try MAKING 2+2=5. Doesn't work, does it? We cannot even MAKE 2+2=4. 2+2=4, whether you sum the equation correctly or NOT ! WHY ??
Because neither Truth NOR Perfection cannot change OR be changed. Even Isaac Newton can ONLY accept its perfect operation, because neither he nor we can change Truth. No attempt on his or our part to ignore, change, disbelieve, or rationalize affects its perfection in ANY way whatsoever !! Furthermore, he or we can validate that the correct application of such principles enables us to accomplish anything consistent with those principles.
ALL the principles of Life operate that way, perfectly, without variation, deviation, or attenuation for anyone, at anytime, anywhere !! We can ONLY accept its perfect operation, because we cannot change Truth. No attempt on our part to ignore, change, disbelieve, or rationalize affects its perfection in ANY way whatsoever !!
.....which necessarily requires Newton, as well as us, to understand that the ';Contriver'; of the eye, and ALL the optical phenomena he perceived WITH it, could be none other than the same Source Who created perfect principles of mathematics which operate undeviatingly to create ONLY 4 as the answer to 2+2, AS the One Who ALSO CREATED US out of perfect principles.
Perfection, Itself, created US and all the Principles of Life, perfectly....though most of us have yet to appreaciate the beauty and majesty of our true estate, AS perfectly created Spiritual Beings. Yes, WE can deny this.....but WE still cannot change the Truth or Perfection of it....any more than WE can CAUSE 2+2 to equal anything but 4.
The knowledge we seek, or the beauty we behold, PRECEDES our need to KNOW it (knowledge), or our ability to behold it (beauty)

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, does that mean ugly people don't exist?
Thats just an excuse ugly people came up withIf beauty is in the eye of the beholder, does that mean ugly people don't exist?
um no? lol...
it means its in the EYE OF THE BEHOLDER..meaning ';ugly'; ppl to you might be gorgeous to other ppl
ive thought so many girls were pretty and had other ppl be like ';ew no way';
or the other way around where i thought giirls/guys were really unattractive and had other ppl tell me im nuts!
it just depends on what you think is sexy, some ppl think tattoos and piercings are a huge turn on and like girls like tila tequila or britannya from vh1. other ppl might think that is a huge turn off and only like more natural girls like kiera knightly. some ppl like big (kim kardashian) some like skinny (paris hilton) some like blond and some like dark hair. its all about what YOU think its beautiful and then that is all that matters, because when you find someone who you think is beautiful it doesnt matter what other people think of them!
besides looks are over rated, you dont get to far in life by looks, and the things you do get because of looks (unless your a model) are probably things that dont matter. if ppl only want someone bc their beautiful then they are the wrong ppl to be around. id rather be loved and valued for who i am on the inside because thats who ill always be, but in 40-50 years when i get old, i wont look the same and i wanna b with someone who will love me when my boobs hit the floor and theyll still think im the best thing. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, does that mean ugly people don't exist?
Yes, in a sense. What one person may find ugly, another will find attractive, so in a sense.
It just means that not every one is gonna be attractive to everyone, not everyone will be ';ugly'; to everyone.
There is always gonna be at least one person in this world that may find you attractive or ';ugly';.
No. Ugliness is also in the eye of the beholder. Like if I said all girls with blonde hair are ugly(just as an example!)then they're ugly in my eyes. Whereas someone else may look at a blonde girl as the most beautiful thing in the world. It just depends on the person.
negative, peoples personalities can make them ugly
answer mine :)
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;鈥?/a>
wow, stupid question! obviously there are still ugly people. but that doesn't mean that everyone finds that person ugly. one person might think someone is ugly, the next person might think their gorgeous.
No. If someone doesn't believe that they're beautiful, then the saying says they aren't. It all depends on what the person thinks of themself.
Ugly people exist, but other ugly people find them beautiful!
oh god, ugly people exist.
they are out there and they will find you.
be safe.
good question..that means everyone is Beautiful in their own way!
you exist, don't you?
*tee hee*
LMFAO
idk
i'm ugly
wrong
um no? lol...
it means its in the EYE OF THE BEHOLDER..meaning ';ugly'; ppl to you might be gorgeous to other ppl
ive thought so many girls were pretty and had other ppl be like ';ew no way';
or the other way around where i thought giirls/guys were really unattractive and had other ppl tell me im nuts!
it just depends on what you think is sexy, some ppl think tattoos and piercings are a huge turn on and like girls like tila tequila or britannya from vh1. other ppl might think that is a huge turn off and only like more natural girls like kiera knightly. some ppl like big (kim kardashian) some like skinny (paris hilton) some like blond and some like dark hair. its all about what YOU think its beautiful and then that is all that matters, because when you find someone who you think is beautiful it doesnt matter what other people think of them!
besides looks are over rated, you dont get to far in life by looks, and the things you do get because of looks (unless your a model) are probably things that dont matter. if ppl only want someone bc their beautiful then they are the wrong ppl to be around. id rather be loved and valued for who i am on the inside because thats who ill always be, but in 40-50 years when i get old, i wont look the same and i wanna b with someone who will love me when my boobs hit the floor and theyll still think im the best thing.
*tee hee*
LMFAO
idk
i'm ugly

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what does this means?
i always hear people say this but i have no idea what it mean, please tell me.Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, what does this means?
hey there jay jay!
it means..that beauty is precieved diffrerently from person to person. for e.g what seems ugly to you, maybe be beautiful to another. its matter of personal taste. sometimes when you tell someone you find a particular person attractive and they disagre with you..thats an example to/ only you can see the beauty in it.

Each person has their own opinion about what or who is beautiful.
everyone has their own definition of beauty, and no one's view of beauty is right or wrong. basically, you can't tell someone their wrong when they think something is pleasant, or beautiful, because everyone has their own opinion.

hey. eye shadow would be good, or putting stuff under your eyes.
make your eye brows dark and long with the pencil also put the pencil on u r end of the eye and pull it a bit long[like making a line]then your eye will be shown a big eye and beautiful that's what i do
put a thin eyeliner...always hav a great n naughty look ..it wil improve ur eyes..hav a bright eyes ok...bye,take care
Depending on the natural color of your eye you can get eye shadow that is coordinated to make your eye color pop or stand out Almay has some eyeshadow sets that come with mascara. Its affordable to, not expensive like 6 bucks maybe. Good luck!
you can get this special color palette from a drugstore that will emphisize your eyecolor ... although i forget what brand it is .
you should put on the right co lour of eyeshadow , experiment with different shades to see which one suits you better , do not forget a good shaped eyebrow is very important!
use flirt colored mascara-- apply twice... i use ';fuscia fusion'; which is bright pink and i always get compliments!
Get colored contacts that match your eyes, I think that brings out the color. Just a thought.

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder and love is blind then why do opposites attract ?
You Don't have it quite right . . . please, let me explain:
BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEER HOLDER! ! !If beauty is in the eye of the beholder and love is blind then why do opposites attract ?
well what has :beauty is in the eyes of the beholder'; got to do with ';opposite attract';?
opposites attract because often in marriages its better to have partners a bit different than you so that u both have a good chemistry u know! and when u diiferent tastes and choices and habits, u can better tolerate each other,,, one's weakness is overcome by the other.
And yes ...love was blind in olden days...not in 21st century...today people ...specially teenagers have given love a different meaning.....and thats ';lust';...they have made this eternal feeling a materialistic thinggggggggggggggg. If beauty is in the eye of the beholder and love is blind then why do opposites attract ?
Its a wrong statement: Love is not blind.
If opposites attract, why do birds of a feather stick together?
Sometimes you see the kind of person you would like to be.

GUYS, do you believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
be honest.
i think women would say yes, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
i think men would say ';no';GUYS, do you believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
Actually no there have been studies where they showed pics of good looking and ugly pics to people all over the world and they all pick the same ugly people and the same good looking person. Think about it if you showed a female pygmy in Africa who has been in the Jungle all her life no tv no contact with the outside word. You first show her a pic of George Clooney Ben Stiller than Danny Devito. She will pick George Clooney over and over again. Beauty is instinctual. It is actually used to find genetic flaws in mates. Health and Beauty are tied together. Some people have genetic flaws themselves which warp this perception of genetic health. There is a universal standard of beauty that is what casting directors in hollywood are for.GUYS, do you believe beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
i know it would sound cheesy but yes beauty IS in the eye of beholder.
I say no doubt beauty if all in the eye of the beholder
Yes,isn't that the same as saying love is blind.
yes

Do you believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
Yes, I do. Some can have great outer beauty while others can have great inner beauty. Some can have both. It's all in how we look at people.Do you believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
YES. It also depends on what u believe in.Do you believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder?
YES, unless they are really UGLY
Yes, but only to a degree. It's culture that largely dictates what a society considers beautiful. Its not a complete 1-to-1 judgement.
For those couplings that people would consider really odd, thats probably more a function of seeing inner qualities that compensate for a lack of outward beauty, but in most cases the people know they don't technically look good.
Yes, definitely.
HTH : )
Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. You don't have to be beautiful on the outside it's what's inside the heart that counts.
Yes, otherwise all of us women would be after the same guy! Luckily, what constitutes ';beauty'; or physical attractiveness is different for each and every one of us.
But more importantly I believe that Pretty Is as Pretty Does.
yes I do
most of my friends are married to butt ugly people
Beauty can be pretty objective, but there are a lot of aspects which are subjective too.
yea but its rare when you see a person considered less atractive differently
yep.
Yes I have seen some strange couples.

Who said that ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder?'; Manilyn Monroe?
It is a sentiment that has been around long before Marilyn Monroe, 3rd Century bce to be exact. The sentiment (not the exact words, however) has appeared in later writings, like those of Shakespeare, David Humme, and Ben Franklin.
The writer, Margaret Wolfe Hungerford, is believed to have started using the phrase as it is today, in her 1878 book, 'Molly Bawn'.Who said that ';beauty is in the eye of the beholder?'; Manilyn Monroe?
It originates from Aesops Fables.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Origin
This saying first appeared in the 3rd century BC in Greek. It didn't appear in its current form in print until the 19th century, but in the meantime there were various written forms that expressed much the same thought. In 1588, the English dramatist John Lyly, in his Euphues and his England, wrote:
';...as neere is Fancie to Beautie, as the pricke to the Rose, as the stalke to the rynde, as the earth to the roote.';
David Hume's Essays, Moral and Political, 1742, include:
';Beauty in things exists merely in the mind which contemplates them.';
The person who is widely credited with coining the saying in its current form is Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (n茅e Hamilton), who wrote many books, often under the pseudonym of 'The Duchess'. In Molly Bawn, 1878, there's the line ';Beauty is in the eye of the beholder';, which is the earliest citation of it that I can find in print.lipstick kiss

What does it mean when people say';beauty is in the eye of the beholder';?
i just don't get it......what does it exactly mean...i see that answer all the time wen someone asks how they look. What does it mean when people say';beauty is in the eye of the beholder';?
No one can see themselves the way other people do. We are so judgmental of ourselves, we can't see through our flaws and someone else can .What does it mean when people say';beauty is in the eye of the beholder';?
It means that beauty cannot be judged objectively. Everyone has their own opinion and if one person says you're beautiful, it doesn't mean per se that the next will think the same way.
The sentence is basically to say that the person saying you're beautiful, sees it with his own eyes, processes it with his own mind and his mind decides whether he likes it or not.
What another person sees with their eyes, is never the same.
You are the beholder and what you find beautiful may not be what someone else finds beautiful. To each is own!
Reminds me of the saying ';Beauty is in the eye of the Beer Holder';.
the eye of the beholder is is in eveyone. people don't see everyone the same. you might think someone is beautiful and someone else might not.
Some people like blondes, others like brunettes
Some people like fat women, some like skinny women
Beauty is argumentive. (varies from person to person)
Some people like Paris Hilton, others cannot stand her.
I might think you're beautiful, but someone else might think you're ugly.
it means that people think differently on whats is beautiful and whats not
It means that what you think is beautiful, might not be what someone else thinks is beautiful and vise versa. Not everyone is attracted to the same thing. That is what makes the world unique. If we all liked yellow daisies, and thought they were the most beautiful flower, it would be pretty boring for all the other flowers.
It means that everyone's view on beauty is different. Like I could see a girl who is very tall and skinny and think she's ugly, but then again to someone else, they can view her and see a another side and say she's beautiful.

Origin : This saying first appeared in the 3rd century BC in Greek. It didn't appear in its current form in print until the 19th century, but in the meantime there were various written forms that expressed much the same thought. In 1588, the English dramatist John Lyly, in his Euphues and his England, wrote:
';...as neere is Fancie to Beautie, as the pricke to the Rose, as the stalke to the rynde, as the earth to the roote.';
David Hume's Essays, Moral and Political, 1742, include:
';Beauty in things exists merely in the mind which contemplates them.';
The person who is widely credited with coining the saying in its current form is Margaret Wolfe Hungerford (n茅e Hamilton), who wrote many books, often under the pseudonym of 'The Duchess'. In Molly Bawn, 1878, there's the line ';Beauty is in the eye of the beholder';, which is the earliest citation of it that I can find in print.

It first appeared in 3rd century BC in Greek.
But it was formally written in 1588 by the English dramatist John Lyly, in his Euphues and his England
';...as neere is Fancie to Beautie, as the pricke to the Rose, as the stalke to the rynde, as the earth to the roote.';
As for the exact phrase, it came from

Do you think wanting skin, eyes, beauty from another culture is cool?
Like lets say, a person who has a perfect brown tan skin wants pale skin, with blue eyes.
Or someone with blonde and blue eyes want brown eyes and tan skin.
I just wanted to know if this is a true fact? Well except those who say i love me for who I am... We all do but do you think some people envy it? In a good way.. :]Do you think wanting skin, eyes, beauty from another culture is cool?
The grass is always greener... so they say. It isn't really cool or uncool, at least I don't think so. I think it's natural to wonder what it would be like to experience different features. When I was little (grew up in the 80's) the common idea of beauty was tall, blonde hair and blue eyes (barbie dollish). Oh how I wished I had blonde hair and blue eyes....You rarely saw dark haired supermodels, it just wasn't the norm. There were a few and they were considered exotic even if they were all American.
Beauty has changed so much now. It is very different now then it was even just 20 years ago. It is now a truly eclectic mix of all different hair and eye color... full figured and thin. I would say the idea of 'beautiful' has evolved.Do you think wanting skin, eyes, beauty from another culture is cool?
No. I think it's unhealthy and pointless.
I sometimes do but then you have to turn around and think, ';Hey, that will never be me.';. But its a cool daydream though! ;]
I have admired the beauty of other races and cultures. I don't exactly want to be them, but I do enjoy their diversity. I think that is cool.
I think it's normal to want what you don't have. Girls with poker-straight hair envy the girls who have naturally curly hair, and the naturally curly girls are spending big money on flat irons.
Same goes for someone with beautiful, very dark eyes, so dark that you can barely see their pupils, wanting light blue eyes.
There are ways to emulate these things without making permanent changes; hair dyes, colored contacts, makeup tips. It's when somebody gets so wrapped up in trying to permanently look like someone they're not, is when it can become a problem.
alot of people want what they dont have
too bad none of us can choose what we look like
Or someone with blonde and blue eyes want brown eyes and tan skin.

If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, than why do so many people define beauty through...?
such symmetrical aspects as in the golden ratio? Faces amongst Marilyn Monroe, Angelina Jolie, Britney Spears, and Justin Timberlake follow the same facial patterns of the golden ratio. The golden ratio can be seen in many other ';beautiful'; objects, such as the flower, a shell, and even in the body...
So doesn't beauty follow a set of timeless standards, and not in the eyes of the beholder?
People and centuries change..but pattern don't.If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, than why do so many people define beauty through...?
Good question......
There was a movie 10 years ago THE TRUTH ABOUT CATS AND DOGS
Abby Barnes (Janeane Garofalo) should have it all. She's a veterinarian and successful host of her own radio talk show called ';The Truth About Cats and Dogs,'; where she entertainingly dispenses useful advice to befuddled pet owners (';It's O.K. to love your pet, but you shouldn't love your pet,'; she tells a listener who's let his cat lick his face for hours, not surprisingly inducing a rash ). Abby's smart, funny, and plays a mean violin. But she's not tall and blond--and routinely gets overlooked when it comes to romance.
Noelle Slusarsky (Uma Thurman), on the other hand, is tall and blonde. She's also kind, generous, and a little lost. Her career as a model isn't all that satisfying, and her relationships with men could provide fodder for a multi-part series on Oprah, Jenny and/or Ricki.
Enter Brian (Ben Chaplin), a photographer who finds himself on the wrong end of a roller skating Great Dane. He turns to radio host Abby for help, and he's charmed when she solves his snarling problem with a dose of common sense combined with disarming humor and grace.
Intrigued by Abby's beguiling charm, evident to him even over the radio airwaves, Brian invites her to meet him so he can thank her in person. Abby nearly agrees, that is until he utters those dreaded five words-- ';What do you look like?'; Rather than suffer what she is sure will be another rejection, Abby describes herself as a tall blonde (who looks very much like her neighbor Noelle), and makes plans--with the intention of never keeping them--to meet Brian.
But the persistent and besmitten Brian seeks out Abby, finding her at work. A panicked Abby asks Noelle, who happens to be visiting Abby at the station, to assume Abby's identity, setting in motion an escalating series of comic and romantic crises. Without knowing what's hit him, Brian falls head-over-heels for someone who could very well be his perfect soul mate. But, in the process, he's also going to discover the not-so-simple truth about the woman he loves..That she's really not the woman he loves.
At one point, he tells Abby (not knowing that she is the woman he loves):
';People change as you get to know them. A woman you might barely notice turns into the most beautiful thing in the world when you get to know her.If beauty is in the eye of the beholder, than why do so many people define beauty through...?
I think your misunderstanding the quote. there are certain features that people (mainly teenagers) find appealing, this part is true. but that has nothing to do with the quote. the quote is saying that what one person may find beautiful the other may not. some men like large women, some like thin, or some prefer different ethnicity's. but mostly the quote has to do with inner beauty. some of the most beautiful exteriors have the most foul hearts and personalities.
Don't let someone tell you what beauty is. you should decide this for yourself.
That's true. We can all agree that someone like Pamela Anderson is hot. But when they say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, they mean that to describe times when your friend thinks someone is hot while you don't. Like me and my friends sometimes have discrepancies on who we think is hotter.
Likewise, one person may think a car is better looking while another person may think another car is cooler. You use the phrase to describe the discrepancies when this happens.
You're defining the western concept of beauty and it does seem an evolutionary aspect as well as a cultural one. Beauty doesn't always cross cultures and race in the same manner.
Yet, I don't understand why, evolutionarily, why we need beauty consistancies that seem so narrow.
You answered you own question.
Many sayings are not worth the words they are written with.
This saying is trying to euphemism the word '; beauty '; instead of using the perfectly good words such as kindness, intelligence, goodness and a host of other perfectly serviceable words.
Maybe the beauty which is beheld is one's own beauty.
The other concept you speak of including bilateral symetry is gentics.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...Does this compare more into music?
Your friend or relative might say the beatles....while your cousin might say that linkin park is the greatest band.
Is there such thing as a greatest band?
Will we ever make a band that everyone will love?Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...Does this compare more into music?
I think the Beatles were as close as music ever got to ';making a band everyone will love.'; and ppl still hated them, and now ppl don't like them...which is cool...(I personally like them.) So, no. There will never be a ';greatest band'; but the Beatles come pretty stinking close...cause they changed everything about the music scene, or the lack of one, so to speak.
Some people, who aren't musicians, just will never understand certain types of music, and why certain people love it...it's because it requires skill and soul, and does not reform to the pop culture's standards...and therefore people who don't play anything (well I might add) don't understand. It's just noise to them, while to musicians like myself, it's genius...and love, and pretty much your whole life...sorry I got really off topic :)Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...Does this compare more into music?
yes, you have a band you think is the greatest band and another person has a band they think are the greatest. It's not the same band. But yes everyone has a band they think is the greatest. They're the greatest to you...that's what counts right?
someday they will creat a band that everyone will love but they will be robots and they sing a song differently in everyone ears so you think they are the greatest but in real life the sound like the jonas brothers =D
No. It is pretty much imposable to make a band that ';everyone'; would love given we all have great variety in taste. Just like there will never be a women that every man will find attractive.
No.There can't be a band that EVERYONE alive will like. It's just not possible.Everyone has different tastes.
nope

Is beauty in the eye of the beholder?
Of course beauty is in the eye of the beholder. That is why we are individuals. Just as with any preference we may have, it is for a reason. Just as some people like certain works of art and others don't, people have preferences as to what characteristics they find attractive in others. Is beauty in the eye of the beholder?
I think so. Some people randomly fall in love for some reason and think the person is beautiful and are blind to all their personality and physical flaws but then when they fall out of love its like a switch is turned off and they no longer see the person through rose tinted glasses.

What does BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER mean?
What does it mean. Like I just said a certain person is beautiful and someone reasponded with beauty is in the eye of the beholder what do they mean? What does BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER mean?
Each person sees things differently. Someone you find beautiful, another person may not. What does BEAUTY IS IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER mean?
I had this happen. If someone said this to you, that usually means they are calling you ugly. I'm not ugly but that person was jealous.
It means that you think someone is pretty and that other person thinks she is butt ugly so it pretty much means a person can date someone and think he/she is beautiful and no one else can see it...so the beauty is in the eye of that particular beholder.
So whoever was the person that said beauty is in the eye of the beholder disagrees with you on whoever you said was pretty.
It means what you think is beauty, may not be beautiful to someone else, to each , his own.
I consider Jennifer Aniston to be beautiful but you may not. In my eyes she is beautiful. I am the beholder who finds who beautiful. Hope that helps.

What does the beauty is in the eye of the beholder mean?
sorry i know this a pretty dumb question. What does the beauty is in the eye of the beholder mean?
It means that what is beautiful to one person is not beautiful to another, that people have different perspectives and tastes. What does the beauty is in the eye of the beholder mean?
its not a dumb question. it basically means that beauty is very subjective; you cannot assign a universal standard to beauty because peoples' definitions of the term vary greatly.
it means that obama must have seen something in his wife that nobody else can see
it means what one person finds beautiful, someone else might not

Is beauty actually in the eye of the beholder?
yes i agreeIs beauty actually in the eye of the beholder?
It's in the eye of those who understand what beauty is. Some see a thing or person in one way others can see them in more than one or in every way. It's all about knowledge and wisdom. Is beauty actually in the eye of the beholder?
No sugar. Beauty is in the eye of the beerholder.
i agree because everyone have different tastes and choices, and A FEEL OF THE THE HEART if one is trully beautiful or not.
Yes, actually it is in the mind of the beholder.
yes
I've never really knew what that meant.
